Plai Laem is a sandy beach of nearly 1 km on Koh Phangan’s west coast, about ten minutes by road north of Thong Sala. Clusters of boulders break up the mostly sandy shore and the water is usually clear. Simple bungalows share the beach with an upmarket villa resort, and popular bars on the hillside behind the beach look out over the sunset.
