Koonya Ocean Beach

Koonya Ocean Beach is an open sandy ocean beach in Mornington Peninsula National Park, facing Bass Strait. A high-set sealed car park connects to the shore by stairs and a steep ramp, while the rocky margins, reefs and rock pools make the area appealing for walking and fishing. The beach is used by confident surfers, but unpredictable rips, strong currents, large waves and submerged rocky reefs mean swimming is not recommended. Hooded Plover habitat occupies parts of the dunes, so visitors should keep to marked paths and stay clear of signed areas.
