Tawan Chai is a long, wide stretch of pale sand on the Lamae coast of southern Chumphon, lined by rows of coconut palms with a coastal road behind. It faces east over the Gulf of Thailand, so early mornings bring sunrise views, and the calm setting suits unhurried walks; local fishing life can be seen nearby. Waves can build during the north-east monsoon.
