About 13 km by road north-east of Chumphon town, Ao Phanang Tak sweeps in a long curve of sand. Its northern end holds a small fishing village with a concrete pier, and the Laem Hua Mong headland closing the south has a lookout facing back across the bay. With the Phanang Tak river emptying into it, the water tends to be cloudy, and the shore is at its most pleasant when the tide is in.
