About this beach
Bang Kao runs for about 4 km along Koh Samui’s quiet south coast, from the mouth of the Ban Thale stream in the east to the golden Laem Sor chedi on the shore in the west. The light yellow sand is coarser higher up, with shells and coral fragments. Offshore, a wide, shallow flat with a rocky, muddy bottom dries at low tide, and the coral keeps waves small. Palm groves and farmland lie behind.
