Ampenan sits in Mataram’s old port quarter, a shore of dark sand and rock. The harbour once linked Lombok with Bali for trade, and today the beach draws locals and visitors for late-afternoon sunsets. Fishing boats come in, and food stalls sell grilled corn, seafood and coffee. It is an open coast, so waves and currents deserve caution.
