Tunkalilla Beach

Tunkalilla Beach is a roughly 4.5-kilometre straight ocean beach on South Australia’s southern Fleurieu coast, backed by steep slopes, a narrow dune and grassy coastal land. The Heysen / Wild South Coast Way follows the shore, with public access via a car park at the end of the steep, unsealed Tunkalilla Beach Road; 2WD access is described for dry weather, while wetter conditions may require 4WD or AWD. It is not a swimming beach and is unpatrolled: reef-controlled rips occur toward the east, semi-permanent rips recur along the west, and large waves can arrive even on calm days. Shore fishing, surfing and coastal walking suit the setting, but the remote access and exposed Southern Ocean require careful planning.
